Technology is a wonderful thing! The internet is just mind boggling if you really think about it. It is amazing that you can google or you tube just about anything and get lots of ideas, advice and video demonstrations. If you have a hobby or interest… there are a million more people who have the same interest, have fiqured out a way to make it better, faster, stronger… AND compete in it, or sell it. And it doesn’t matter what “IT” is! You can find blogs, forums, website and facebook pages for all of it. You can read comments from other people who have similar interests… who either love or hate what they have found online about “IT”. It is a real time encyclopedia at your fingertips. It can be a true blessing… Or, if you are my love, Egidio, it can make you crazy.
I love Egidio, I truly do. He is my best friend and the love of my life. So I say the following out of love… he is crazy! If you know him personally you will understand. He is a mixture of OCD, Give a mouse a cookie syndrome, type A personality and pure insanity… but in a good way. Fortunately, he knows he is crazy as seen in the text above. So at least I don’t have to add denial to the list. On the farm, he has a very long list of things that need to get done at the farm. He can’t multi-task to save his life and he is constantly distracted by other things. For every project that he gets done, he adds two to the list. He finds himself so wound up at the sheer volume of projects he has, that I just have to sit back and watch him spin himself out of control. He is usually able to gather himself after his mini break down… Usually.
He is completely consumed with watching how- to videos. I mean CONSUMED!! The good thing is that there really isn’t ANYTHING that he can’t do. Seriously… He was a contractor/builder for 25 years, he is a licensed master electrician, a licensed master plumber, a mechanic,a welder, and oh yeah… chief of police. But again…. he is crazy! Allow me to clarify, at KPD he is organized, professional and always on task. I don’t know what happens when he gets in his car and drives to the farm. He has certain forums that he is addicted to. He carries his tablet from room to room with videos playing on how to build a maple syrup evaporator … Or tig welding a stainless steel pan… He even carries his tablet into the bathroom. He has videos playing on his phone when he drives so he can listen to what people are doing. I know what you are thinking… that’s awesome!! And it is… except he gets TOO MANY ideas…TOO MANY opinions on how to do things… and he can’t stay focused…. Then he gets completely overwhelmed, and he implodes! When that happens his word vomit is very impressive, yet hard to decipher. It’s usually a jumble of things that need to get done, with a dash of self doubt and a pinch of disgust with his physical need to actually sleep at night. I mean really…Who NEEDS to sleep?? Why CAN’T he eat in the garage while working?? He gets like a temperamental little boy who doesn’t want to stop playing at dinner time. He would much prefer to work until well after midnight, power nap, and do it all again. In his mind, if he is cold, hungry, tired and sore… he is happy.
I bet you can’t guess what we did this past weekend…… we cleaned the woods! That’s right. we cleaned the floor of the woods. We are getting ready for Maple Syrup season and Egidio has watched all 2,309 you tube videos on setting up the sugar bush. Apparently, the floor of our 130 acre farm was not up to par. So we cleaned it. Hard hats, chainsaws, the backhoe, and a few bottles of water. As we cut, piled and cleared our way through the sugar bush I had to keep reminding him that I am a weak little girl! I can’t lift or pull logs that are bigger than me. He was in the zone and nothing was stopping him. Now I can say in all honesty, by Sunday night we were cold, hungry, tired and sore… And Egidio was finally happy!
