That Damn Dog!

FullSizeRender (2)This is Daphne… we love Daphne, we really do.

A little background on Daphne…

I wanted to get my kids a dog. All kids should have the experience of loving and caring for a dog, a cat, something. My entire life I have had a dog. At one point I had four dogs. I have had puppies from litters, rescue dogs that I traveled really far to get and dogs that have adopted me. But always a dog.

When we started to seriously negotiate with the previous owner for the farm, I started to kick around the idea of getting a dog. Egidio wasn’t too warm on the idea initially… but he slowly came around. I had always wanted a boxer, Elmo, Egidio’s son wanted a husky. Huskies are so darn cute, especially husky puppies. But boy do they shed! They are the top shedding dog, and boxers are on the “sheds the least” list…. so guess who won?!

I found a litter not too far and we surprised the kids with a new puppy. It was such a great experience!!

Egidio immediately laid down the law on the new dog….

She was not to be on the furniture.

She was not to even step foot in the bedrooms.

She was not to be fed from the table.

She was a dog!

Fast forward 8 months and let me tell you how it really is… Daphne is not really a dog… she only looks like a dog. Daphne rules the roost! She still lives at Egidio’s house not at the farm with me and my kids. Why?? Well, Daphne sleeps WITH Egidio. IN his bed. UNDER the covers. She eats FROM the table and when she gets her “new dog treat” at night, yes… every night, she takes it right to the couch where she eats it before rolling over for a nap.

Recently, I was at Egidio’s house and plopped down on the bed. Daphne jumped on the bed and gave me the crazy eyes while growling and barking at me until I got up. Another day while I was ironing Egidio’s shirts for him, Daphne came into the room, jumped on his bed and barked at me the entire time I was ironing. A few days later she was at the farm and broke her leather collar and threw her body against the door. I happen to be on the other side of the door bending over picking up my kids shoes and the door hit me in the head. I spent the rest of the day in the ER. That damn dog gave me a concussion!! I missed two days of work and I had a headache for over a week.

I am starting to think that Daphne doesn’t love me!

We contacted the dog whisperer. He is scheduling a trip to the farm. I will keep you posted. If I live to tell the story…
